Thrilled to be back in Bath this Christmas – Full cast now announced for “Sleeping Beauty”.

The fabulous family pantomime at Theatre Royal Bath promises a laugh-a-minute extravaganza with stunning sets, top musical hits, fantastic costumes and exciting special effects to keep audiences both young and old entertained! EastEnders’ and West End star Neil McDermottwill play Prince Vincent alongside Bath favourite Jon Monie as Lester the Jester, EastEnders’ Nick Wilton as Dame Nanny Nora, Hollyoaks’Sarah Jane Buckley as Fairy Snowfall and Maisie Sellwoodas Princess Rose.

In this new adaptation of The Railway Children by Paul Burton, the cast will perform E. Nesbit’s much-loved children’s book as a radio play.

Managed to squeeze in a Voiceover session during my panto run in Bath at Christmas (2022) for a series of 9 Mecca Bingo Online idents which will run all year on Challenge (Freeview 48).

Christmas 2022

Thrilled to be returning to the Theatre Royal, Bath this Christmas for my 23rd consecutive year playing Dame (and my 5th Panto season in Bath). Great to be back playing Jon Monie’s Mum, and to work with Tom Lister (we were both in “Pantomonium”, the 2020 Blackpool Grand online panto written by Jon), and Michael Chance (who I last worked with in Sleeping Beauty in Basingstoke in 2010).

Monsters in Metropolis - Big Finish

Had a lot of fun playing the part of Fritz Lang in this fantastic new Dr Who story 

from Big Finish.

Monsters in Metropolis  is the third and final story in the audio anthology Lost Warriors, produced by Big Finish Productions. It was written by John Dorneyand featured Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor.

Pantomonium! The Blackpool Grand's Panto - Online!

Pantomonium - written and created byJon Monie is the panto offering from Blackpool Grand this year. Due to the covid crisis it did not get to see a run but this filmed version by Jake Powell does not seem to lose any of the fun, wit and energy of a perfectly pitched family panto.
Running at an hour the cast of 4 create 6 characters who take us through a fully staged panto from UK Productions filmed onstage at The Grand.

The task for Prince Charmless and "Ensemble Girl" is to find Fairy Tales and the book of panto before they are lost forever to the Baddie, Killjoy; at this point all imagination will end and the panto stories we know and love will be lost forever.

Nick Wilton is an excellent Dame Tilly Topps / Fairy Tales; ensuring the comedy is full of dynamic fun and traditional "business." It is hard to believe it is not filmed in front of a live audience such is the quality of the the performances. Tom Lister is a gloriously gormless Prince Charmless; full of self importance, clad in lycra and an utterly daft but endearing triangle percussion sound to accentuate every double entendre.

Olivia Birchenough as the Ensemble Girl is a strong central focus alongside Steve Royle as the evil Kill Joy and side kick Billy Topps.
The multi role playing is much enjoyed and made a feature of. The writing is sharp and satirical, the social references are spot on and the political digs great fun. The reworking of "If I were not upon a stage" is a fine moment: "roll your sleeves up, sit right down, you'll feel a little prick" or "new slide please, stay indoors, not a chuffing clue."

This is well directed by Anthony Williams and the gags are fast and furious; in the current climate for those wanting some traditional pantomime fun then this is a very good place to start.

No doubt this show will have a life beyond 2020; the ideas are strong and the writing is both naughty enough for adults to snigger and yet be faithful to the audience intended.  Jon Monie has created an absolute gem to get us through the season and all credit to those who have made it available online. Panto has most definitely triumphed and a little Christmas magic has been saved for now - rarely has it felt more important.

It Runs In The Family

Having a great time back at The Mill at Sonning playing Dr Hubert Bonney in Ray Cooney's farce, "It Runs In The Family".
It's also a treat to be performing with my wife, Lynette, again; we both did the play (and also Out Of Order) on the P&O World cruises in 2007 and 2008, with the man himself ,Ray Cooney.
The show is going down well with the audiences at The Mill, and we've had some great reviews.

Jack & The Beanstalk, Bath

This year, my 8th season with UK Productions, marks my 16th consecutive Christmas 

playing Dame, and I'm really excited to be playing The Theatre Royal, Bath; 

though it is slightly daunting to be stepping into the boots of Chris Harris,

 who directed and played Dame there for so many years.

Chris was my inspiration to play Dame; I was was Captain's Mate with him in my first panto,

Dick Whittington, at The Theatre Royal Plymouth, way back in 1987

(starring Anita Harris, Bernard Cribbins, Andrew Sachs and Glyn Owen).

It was such fun doing classic routines with Chris and Bernard - especially A Little Bit of Heaven,

and an acrobatic act with Chris on invisible flying wires - I learnt so much from them both.

I'm also looking forward to being back with some old friends: lovely Sarah Day (Princess Jill),

who I last worked with in Sleeping Beauty at The Anvil in Basingstoke in 2010 - she's 

choreographing the show too, which is great, because she's very, very patient;

 the delightful David Alcock (playing King) - we were both in Jack & The Beanstalk

in New Brighton a couple of years ago; 

David Barrett (Jack), who I was with in Aladdin in Malvern in 2008 - Great voice!

and Director, Michael Gattrell, who I've known for years but never actually worked with.

 And if that wasn't enough there's  there's all the new friends to make!

Jon Monie, who I've seen in previous Bath Pantos - Really funny!

the irrepressible Katy Ashworth; and, of course, 

Nigel Havers (who I'm really looking forward to flirting with!)
