Jack & The Beanstalk
Into second week of rehearsals for panto tomorrow- first show 2.30pm Saturday - all going well.

After spectacularly breaking box office records with ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ in 2009, and following the overwhelming success of ‘Cinderella’ last year - UK Productions brings you a giant production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ for this year’s Bournemouth Pavilion Pantomime.
Make sure the whole family is full of beans this Christmas and follow the hilarious tale of the ups and downs of young Jack Trott played by Deborah Stevenson (The Impressions Show & Coronation Street), the boy who manages to sell the family’s only valuable possession, Daisy the Cow, for a handful of beans (and they weren’t even Heinz!). He ends up having to climb a giant beanstalk into the clouds and a whole heap of trouble, to retrieve the cow and to try and impress the King.

Jack is helped and hindered along the way by his less than bright brother Silly Billy played by CBeebies star and Bournemouth panto favourite Chris Jarvis, the Good Fairy, Kate Weston from Wave 105, and his long-suffering mother Dame Trott played hilariously by one of the country’s top panto dames, Nick Wilton better known as Mr Lister from Eastenders.
Join Jack on his quest to defeat the evil Giant Blunderbore and his nasty henchman Fleshcreep played by Brian Capron (Coronation Street’s bad boy Richard Hillman), to win not only his fortune but also the hand of the Kings beautiful daughter.

The whole production is complimented by lavish costumes and a sumptuous set and promises to be another spectacular success from producers UK Productions.
It’s a giant of a pantomime…don’t miss it!

A busy week
Really looking forward to a quiet weekend - on Monday I was up early taking our 5-month old puppy to the vet and myself to the doctors for results of blood tests before travelling up to London for an ad casting; another early start on Tuesday going to Elstree to shoot a couple of scenes for EastEnders (ep. goes out 15 November); drove down to Bournemouth on Wednesday for the panto launch and stayed up late with the director, Chris Jarvis, talking through ideas for the show; yesterday I drove home via Portsmouth, where my son, Barney, has just started at Uni; and today I'm back on the train to London for a costume call for the ad which I went for on Monday, and got, and which I'm filming next Tuesday. A great week.

Don't blink - EastEnders tonight
An exteremely fleeting appearance in The Vic tonight.
Unfortunately the scene in which I had some lines with Jean couldn't be shot because of rain and I wasn't available on the re-shoot day.
Mr Lister's last appearance for a while - my filming dates for August have had to be put back to September as they clashed with a week on Ray Cooney's film of his play "Run For Your Wife".

EastEnders Re-shoot
Back at Elstree today to re-shoot a couple of scenes for next Thursday's episode.
Margaret Tyzack, who joined the cast in February as Janine and Ricky's grandmother Lydia, has now left due to a "personal matter", and her role has been recast, with 83-year-old Heather Chasen taking over the part.
Sadly the two scenes with Lydia in that I originally filmed back on February 28th were cut quite a bit for the re-shoot, and I lost some nice stuff; but I think it will still be quite a good ep for me, if my other scenes have been kept in.

Joking Apart - Review
First of the reviews is in...
The Stage
Published Monday 7 March 2011 at 10:35 by Sheila Tracy
“When you’ve got friends and neighbours, the world is a wonderful place”, according to the fifties hit song, a theory debunked some 20 years later by Alan Ayckbourn in Joking Apart. The question being - is making friends with neighbours who may be a great deal wealthier than you, a wise move?
It’s open house at Richard’s and Anthea’s estate and nobody is complaining. Brooks Livermore and Cal Jaggers play the happy couple with an endless supply of bonhomie who are ready to hobnob with the vicar. Harry Gostelow gives a memorable performance as the welcoming parish priest, saddled with a whining wife, played almost too realistically by Catherine Skinner and I found myself wishing all three wives would drop their voices an octave. However, Lynette McMorrough is completely in character as the mollycoddling wife of Sven, a delightful performance from Nick Wilton as Finland’s former junior tennis champion, who warns the others of the dangers of becoming too friendly with the likes of Richard and Anthea.

Which brings us to Michael Holt’s set, a garden complete with tennis court, admittedly only one end, but a remarkable achievement on a stage of this size. And yes, we do get to see the podgy Sven serving and returning the ball.
Paul Chesterton plays Brian, the friend and business partner of the owners of the estate, and a special mention of Anna Doolan who plays his three very different girlfriends and the daughter of the house with considerable expertise.
